The subject this week is stockmen of the past.  This picture is of me demonstrating how to rope and lay a calf down calmly and safely.  The way the calf is calmly laying there, the other calf and my horse are pretty interested in what I am doing, and at least from this picture it looks as if you can rope and lay a calf down with out much stress, even though some say it isn’t possible.  All of the stockmen of my past, good and bad, have influenced and inspired me, and this week I pay tribute to all good stockmen.

This is the place I grew up on.  It is presently a golf course and a housing development.  You can see the property to the left is still producing agricultural products.  The property on the right is dry land grain but has never produced much.  It looks like the golf course and housing development would have been better placed across the road.  This week I will use this place as an example of “sustainable” agriculture.

I am real proud of my daughter, Mesa.  She grew up being exposed to some really influential horse clinicians.  She has the desire to be the best at what SHE wants to be.  The subject this week is being yourself and Mesa is the poster child!

peace river canada

Last week I crossed the Peace River in northern Alberta.  It is a ice bridge in the winter and they put a ferry in for the non-ice months.  My thoughts this week will be about Canada and the good folks at United Farmers of Alberta.  We always had a good time, ate great, and as you see in the video, people I would “ride the river with.”

This is a photo of my son, Rial, and myself at a branding in South Dakota.  We are going to be focusing on handling calves at the demos at NCBA Convention this year and I think they will be beneficial to the folks that watch.  Just part of my addiction!
