Riding one that’s spooked and on the muscle

This was a great opportunity to discuss things when your horse is on the muscle and what to do to turn the situation into a positive rather than a negative that sets your and the horses confidence up to get better rather than worse.

It’s real easy to undo days of good horsemanship when something like this happens. The first thing is to keep yourself safe, and second is to not undo what you’ve been doing out of frustration or fear.

I had an article one time in Western Horseman titled “Have fun, Be safe”. That should be the theme of every ride, and whatever other positive you achieve is a great bonus, like picking an apple from the apple tree!

Lewis and Clark county 4-H livestock auction

Pate auction has been dong this sale for 59 years. 4-H is such a great learning experience and has developed a lot of young minds in so many positive ways over the years. Many of our leaders in agriculture and business all over the US have a background in 4-H and FFA.

Lewis and Clark county has so many supporters of the sale as well as all over the country. They are really helping a very good cause. I would encourage you to look into a sale in your area.

Brothers Dan and Doug now run Pate Auction Service, and we are all proud to donate out time to this very good cause.

Our mentor and father stepped up and showed us how to energize a crowd and get it rolling. I’m always amazed at how he can do that.

I thought is might be fun to see things from the auctioneers view point when selling so I put the camera on for a bit of selling. I love to sell! I really like live auctions and how effective they are at true price discovery.

Stockmanship and Stewardship program

This is a great video on what the Stockmanship and Stewardship program is about. This was in Utah last year and a great program. Ron Gill and I present different cattleman handling concepts working horseback and a foot, and once in a while they will have a side by side.

I feel they provide great value and information about lots of different things covered besides cattle handling.

check out “Stockmanshipandstewardship.org” for more info. I am real proud to be a part of the program!
